A twenty-five volume, woodblock-printed picture book entitled Bijutsu Sekai (i.e., World of Art) was edited by Seitei Watanabe and published in 1892-1895. The book’s ninety-one pictures of flowers and (or) birds are shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Most of these pictures were drawn by artists active in the late 1800s who used a drawing style which combined Chinese idealism with European realism. Today this style is called Nihonga (i.e., Japanese picture).
